An officer from Nottingham City Councils Arts & Events kindly responded to some of the issues raised by the public at Chill in the Park 2006.

'Do not allow stallholders to park on the grass'
- No cars is always best, but where would you put them if not behind the
stalls? It has worked in the past for Arboretum Festival. The key is
controlling the numbers and people driving around.

'The toilets need cleaning they're really dirty'
- On going complaint. They are vastly better than they were when we first
started doing events in the park, they are cleaned before the events and
checked during the event. What they really need is totally rebuilding...
that is down to funding. There is talk about phase II of the park's plan
which does mention work to the toilets. This is really an issue which needs
raising with the park development officers. - the continuous cleaning is
also down to the park staff being busy doing other duties like litter
picking... guess it's all down to funding.

'More bins'
- Additional bins are put out for events and emptied throughout the event.
The permanent bins are blocked off as they fill up too quickly and are
harder to empty. If people used the bins more, there would be less litter
picking and the bins would be emptied more often. Also, we are often a
victim of our own success with large number coming to the events which put
our limited staffing resources under pressure. Again more money = more
staff. On a positive note, the park is always clean the next day!

'The event should run on later'
- A wish we all have, but we must remember that keeping the event programme
going has been a hard job. The park is surrounded by residential houses with
certain people wanting total silence. Most of the events are running longer
than the original events programme. Another issue for the park development
officers?!..

'Sound system improvements/More speakers
- Unfortunately, your PA and most of the others are running at a fraction
of their maximum. Back to the same issue of local residents and certain
groups in the early days not controlling their volume levels. We are now
paying the price and having to follow the strict noise levels rules. We are
not the only ones, such as the Carnival and the Mela - and even Glastonbury
who's neighbours are further away than ours.

'We could chill better with 2 ice cream vans very long queue'
- The ice cream concession for the park is arranged yearly. Talk to the
people who have won the concession and find out if they can provide an
additional unit for your event - and how much they will give you for the
privilege!
